Important Limitations & Suitability
Please note: This transfer lift chair is designed to assist with short-distance seated transfers. It is not intended to replace a full patient hoist, and it will not be suitable for every user or every environment.
- Not for fully immobile (“invalid”) patients: The user must still be able to sit upright on the bed (even if they require assistance). If a person cannot sit up straight, a different type of lifting/transfer solution will be required.
- Not designed for wheelchair or vehicle transfers: This unit is primarily intended for transfers such as bed-to-toilet, and in some cases bed-to-chair (as demonstrated in the video). It is not intended to transfer a patient into a wheelchair or a car. For those applications, a patient hoist is typically the correct device.
- Bed height / clearance matters: The chair must be able to roll in and position the seat over the bed for a safe transfer (as shown in the video). If the bed is too high, the chair may not fit over it. The height clearance of the unit, from the floor to the bottom of the chair is 69cm. If your bed is higher than this (on the bed’s lowest setting, if height adjustable), the Transfer Lift will, regrettably not fit.
- User size limitations (height and weight): Suitability is not only about weight capacity. User height can also affect comfort and practicality. As a guideline, users above roughly 5 ft 10–11 in (about 178–180 cm) may start finding the chair more limited in fit and comfort. The maximum weight capacity is 120 kg, which must also be observed.
